Silestone Eco

Eco embraces sustainability, design and quality that has produced a new category of recycled surfaces. Silestone Eco countertops and Silestone surfaces are an ecological alternative to similar surfaces available for construction and decoration. The product is manufactured from 75% of recycled materials that include mirror, glass, porcelain, earthenware and vitrified ash. In every step of production, from extraction to manufacturing to installation, Silestone Eco countertops respect and protect the environment – 94% of the water used to manufacture Eco is re-used. All of the minerals used in the production of Eco come from quarries that are fully restored under strict stewardship programs and the manufacturing process is strictly controlled to avoid emissions of any harmful particles into the air.

Materials in Silestone Eco Countertops

There are other eco-friendly surfacing materials in the market today, but no other like Eco. Silestone Eco countertops re-utilizes materials that have reached the end of their life cycle, thus saving on the creation and consumption of natural resources. We can recycle and still produce awesome countertops for beautiful designs in our homes, businesses, and office environments. Here is how much material was recycled in a year of production of Silestone Eco:

Glass – Equivalent of 65 million bottles
Vitrified Ash – Equivalent to a tower of 530m of height and base 10ft²
Mirror – Equivalent of 2 million mirrors of 39″ x 39″
Ceramics – Equivalent to 538195 ft² of ceramic tiles

Silestone Eco Components

These materials are sourced from independent sustainable waste management organizations throughout Europe where they undergo an extensive cleaning process which ensures that all glues, silicons and other hazardous materials have been properly removed. The raw materials are then sorted by category and stored in tower silos. The raw materials are poured into a sophisticated five color mixer and combined with an eco-friendly resin composed of 22% corn oil. Once the raw materials and resin have been bound together, the mixture is poured on to a conveyor belt and compressed at 3000lbs/cm² to remove all air pockets and create a dense and compact slab. The slab is baked in an industrial oven for 2 hours, removed and left to cool for 2 days to avoid potential cracks or damage to the integrity of the product. After cooling, the slab is calibrated and polished with a diamond blade to add shine and luster. The finished product is an eco-friendly, highly durable, and extremely stylish surfacing material that can be fabricated for use in any residential or commercial kitchen and bath project.
