Extreme Makover Home Edition – Ward Family

Silestone provides kitchen and activity area for the Ward home featured on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

Erie, PA. (Dec. 13, 2009) — Cosentino, the maker of Silestone quartz countertops, joined with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to provide countertop surfaces, fabrication and installation with hands-on involvement from Advanced Surfaces at the Ward build site. Cosentino donated Silestone quartz for the Kitchen and Activity Room in the colors Grey Amazon and Blanco Maple. These colors were the most preferred out of the choices the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition designers proposed for each room.

Having experienced a childhood of hardship, Clara vowed to make a difference for the next generation. Neither modest means, nor the challenges of Myostenio Gradi, a degenerative muscular disease, have stopped her so far. For decades, Clara has put her personal needs second to feeding, clothing and nurturing children in her home, organizing charitable drives, arranging field trips, tutoring, giving cooking lessons and much more. But the rampant disrepair of her crumbling two-story home — including a cracked foundation, a leaky roof, peeling walls and a faulty sewage line — increasingly threatens the life-long mission that means so much to Clara and the people in her neighborhood. Furthermore, the house lacks the wheelchair accessibility she needs, requiring her to stay with her daughter and head back and forth each day.

“Cosentino selected Advanced Surfaces of Pennsylvania and their team to work with us on the Ward home because of their sincere interest in contributing to such a worthwhile project. Advanced Surfaces of Pennsylvania has a solid reputation for superior service and quality, and we have been very pleased to align with them for a variety of installation projects in Pennsylvania,” Marquez added.

“Cosentino and Silestone are thrilled to be a part of this Extreme Makeover: Home Edition project to help Clara enjoy a home that is accessible for her and suitable for the underprivileged children of her non-profit. Clara has set aside her personal needs for charitable pursuit to the extent she no longer has resources or time left for shopping for home products, like countertops. Therefore we’re glad to help by providing countertops that are not only beautiful, but also are antimicrobial, stain-, scratch- and scorch-resistant,” explained Lorenzo Marquez, vice president of marketing for Cosentino North America. “We know this will help make a difference in the quality of Clara’s life and of the children she cares for.” Marquez added.

Silestone quartz is known for offering a cleaner and safer surface and for its built-in Microban as well as its GREENGUARD certification for clean air quality and National Sanitation Foundation certification for food preparation – which represent extensive safety and environmental benefits to families like the Terpennings. Silestone quartz also comes with a 15-year limited manufacturer’s warranty.
